More layers. Same run.

Paved trail between snowy banks and bare trees under a clear blue sky, with the Race Consulting runner mark

November showed up this week. Snow on the ground, darker mornings, and the familiar question before a cold run: what layers will work today?

The hardest part is getting started, and finding the motivation to go outside.

But staying active matters to me, so I figure out the layers, step outside, and find my rhythm along the way.

Work in November isn’t so different.

Some businesses are wrapping up the year. Others are just getting busier.

Either way, teams have already carried a full year of work, and the season is shifting around them. The goals still matter, but so does what people can realistically carry.

As December approaches, there can be pressure to treat everything as urgent.

It can help to pause and look at what’s getting in the way of the team’s rhythm:

  • What are the few things that truly need to get done before year-end?

  • Does each one have a single, clear owner?

  • Which issues keep coming up in meetings but never actually get solved?

Having done it before doesn’t mean I can head out dressed for September.

There’s still time to finish the year strong. A few clear priorities, adjusted to the conditions.
